We enjoy traveling and sampling new cultures and cuisines while we do. The next best thing to traveling is watching Anthony Bourdain travel. His sarcastic yet sincere form of commentary and improvisational style of travel really gets me chuckling. After receiving this book from Cheryl for Christmas I was eager to start right away, but felt compelled to finish Cities of the Plains first.
Written just before acquiring his current fame and popular TV show on the Travel Channel "Kitchen Confidential" is a cook's tour of the restaurant industry. Anthony Bourdain's wry wit and frank honesty guide the reader from his first exposure to French food as a child to his everyday responsibilities, travails and headaches as head chef of Les Halles in New York. This is a greatly entertaining read about the parallel, yet unseen world lurking behind the restaurant kitchen door and the people who staff it.
